Falmouth

Falmouth is a gorgeous and busy town located on the south coast of Cornwall. In 2016, Falmouth was awarded the accolade of GB High Street Best Coastal Community. There are many beautiful beaches surrounding Falmouth, all in walking distance! Gyllyngvase beach is the most popular and well known of the beaches due to its location, size, rockpools and beauty. Just along the magical looking coast path of Gylly Beach, you can find Swanpool Beach! Swanpool is an interesting beach as just next to it is a protected brackish water lake that is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest! This lake is home to a variety of very interesting species. One of the most unusual species found in Swanpool lake is the Trembling Sea Mat (Victorella pavida). The UK’s only known home to the Trembling Sea Mat is Swanpool Lake, this is due to the lake’s perfect levels of salinity and parameters in which allows it to grow. Terrapins can also be found within Swanpool lake due to people irresponsibly releasing their unwanted pets into the lake. These terrapins are now deemed invasive.

Falmouth holds many events and festivals throughout the year that many come to visit and experience. Some of the biggest events include Falmouth Week and the Sea Shanty Festival. During these events, the stunning coastal streets are buzzing with people both local and those who have travelled, all coming to listen to the sea shanties and take part in the traditions.

The maritime history of Falmouth is also incredibly rich, with Falmouth being home to the third deepest natural harbour in the world and it is the deepest in Europe being around 34 metres deep! Due to Falmouth’s extensive maritime history, the National Maritime Museum displays and showcases many of the artifacts and stories that have been found within Falmouth and other areas of Cornwall.

The Falmouth Chain Bracelet was named after this incredible coastal town due to its chain that looks much like the chains used in the boats that surround it! The Falmouth chain-link bracelet is so comfortable to wear and because all the links are soldered, making it incredibly strong. It features a chunky and strong lobster catch which makes putting it on easy.
