What is Fast Fashion?
Fashion and lifestyle trends are continuously evolving and changing, its impossible for anyone to keep up with, whether its buyers or makers!
Luckily for those who want to keep up with these trends, there is always fast fashion! These types of stores exploit their workers and the environment in order to provide people with items, clothes and accessories they can wear for a few days before the trend passes and the item falls apart!
Fast fashion is a term used to describe clothing designs that move quickly from the runway to stores to meet new trends. This rapid production cycle allows shoppers to buy fashionable clothes at a lower cost, but it comes with significant downsides. Fast fashion brands often rely on cheap labour under poor working conditions and use materials that aren’t made to last. As a result, these clothes are usually worn just a few times before they start to fall apart, creating a lot of waste.
The cheap prices make it easy to forget about the negative impacts behind the scenes, but the reality is that fast fashion contributes to environmental damage and worker exploitation. It’s a system designed for quick turnover and continuous consumption, which isn’t sustainable for the planet or fair to the people making the clothes. So, while fast fashion might seem like a great way to stay trendy without spending much, the hidden costs are much higher than they appear.
Disposable and fast fashion is a disaster that we and the world will be experiencing the impact of for years to come. The planet is already suffering from the immense quantity of fashion waste, and the people who have been creating it for almost no money have been suffering even longer.
How has Fast Fashion affected the Jewellery Industry?
Due to the ridiculously cheap prices, and availability of these items, many customers have decided that this is the best way to purchase clothes and jewellery and has made the prices of ethical and handmade fashion pieces look too expensive, when in reality, they are prices carefully chosen with material and labour costs in mind.
Jewellery has been among the many industries affected by this trend of fast fashion, fortunately for us jewellers, we create pieces that are made to last, and that is especially true for what I create at Kerensa Jewellery.
How Kerensa Jewellery is the better option to Fast Fashion
Kerensa Jewellery is the opposite of fast fashion. I design and hand make each piece to order, and every piece is designed to last, so much so that it can be passed down for generations as an heirloom. Starting with a solid bar of silver, I carefully hand forge it into a near-perfect circle before soldering. In contrast to hollow or plated jewellery, my solid silver creations offer superior durability and resistance to bending. Everything I create for Kerensa Jewellery is made to order, preventing overproduction and the chances of excess stock.
Unlike fast fashion, Kerensa Jewellery is always in trend, as each piece is timeless and not dictated by fleeting fads. My chunky silver belcher bracelets and handmade silver bangles are designed to be bold yet classic, ensuring they remain stylish year after year. My bangles for large wrists offer a comfortable fit for those who struggle to find size-inclusive jewellery in mainstream stores.
I take pride in crafting contemporary ring designs, such as my bashed silver rings and chunky silver rings for men and women, which are made with both style and longevity in mind. For those who love symbolic jewellery, my chunky millennium ingot pendant are perfect statement pieces.
What Jewellery Does Kerensa Jewellery Offer?
While Solid Silver Bangles and Cuffs are my current main jewellery piece, I am in the process of creating much more! Other items I offer are solid silver rings for men and women, as well as cufflinks, chains, pendants and earrings.
Many mass-produced brands offer limited sizes, making it difficult for customers to find jewellery that truly fits. Fortunately, Kerensa Jewellery is size inclusive, with a wide range of sizes to choose from. If there is a size that you need that is not listed, I am always able to create custom sizes, ensuring anyone is able to purchase my jewellery!
Solid Silver Jewellery for Men
While all of my jewellery looks great on everyone, some pieces look especially great on men or those looking for more masculine jewellery. For example, the silver cuffs such as the Zennor 12 Cuff and the Cribbar Cuff. These are powerful statement pieces that are both comfortable and durable to wear everyday as well as being stylish! Cuffs are also great for those with big hands and small wrists as the cuff is put on using your wrist rather than bangles which must be able to go over your hand. This allows cuffs to have a more snug and stable fitting.
Solid silver bangles for men include the Zennor range, especially the Zennor 12 and Newlyn 6 as these are both beautifully chunky solid sterling silver pieces that compliment any outfit, both smart and casual, and are always an eye-catching accessory.
The Falmouth Chain Bracelet is another fantastic choice as it is unique and can suit almost any style, whether it is alternative, causal and smart, this piece can be put with almost anything and still be the item that puts the outfit together. Each link is hand forged and soldered ensuring that it is durable, and it is made to last, like all my jewellery, making this a great chain bracelet for men.
At Kerensa Jewellery, I offer a great selection of men’s silver pendants and mens silver chains, such as the solid silver millennium ingot that has display hallmarks of the rare and exclusive millennium stamp only available during the beginning of the millennium, making this a fantastic retro and historic piece that can be handed down for generations. This sterling silver pendant is also great for anniversaries or birthdays that began in the year 2000.
The other solid silver pendant for men is the late Queens Platinum Jubilee Hallmarked pendant, with the Queen’s commemorative mark displayed amongst the other hallmarks stamped at the London Assay Office. To learn more about hallmarks, I have written a page all about what a hallmark is here.
Solid silver chunky rings for men include the Zennor 8 Solid silver ring. This ring has prominent display hallmarks and offers a satin and polished finish. The Reef hammered silver ring is another great choice, especially for those who want to carry around a piece of Cornwall on their hands wherever they go.
Fast fashion may offer quick and cheap solutions, but it comes at a high cost to both people and the planet. At Kerensa Jewellery, I take a different approach, one that values craftsmanship, sustainability, and individuality. Every piece I create, from chunky silver chain bracelets to hammered silver earrings, is designed to be treasured for a lifetime, not just a season. By choosing handmade, ethically crafted jewellery, you’re not only investing in a piece that will last but also supporting a movement that stands against disposable fashion. Whether you’re looking for a statement men’s silver bangle or a delicate, handcrafted ring, Kerensa Jewellery offers timeless designs that can be worn and passed down for generations. When you choose quality over quantity, you’re making a choice that benefits both you and the world around you.
